z|art dept. has won Westword's "Best of Denver" as a historic Colorado Gallery every year since our inception in 2009.
z|art department's mission is to provide historic Colorado art to the local marketplace and savvy collector.
Starting in 1990, Randy Roberts began collecting the work of Colorado-based artists. While growing the collection he came to realize the lack of information available about Colorado artists, and started researching and acquiring various resources. Those resources have contributed to a grander picture of the contributions and importance of Colorado artists to the progression of American art.
As fate would have it, an opportunity arose to have Paul Hughes come to z|art and bring the dream to reality. So after eighteen years of chasing a dream, Randy opened z|art department, at 1136 North Speer in Denver. z|art now exhibits some of the most important works to come from historic artists such as Edward Marecak, Al Wynne, and John Haeseler, just to name a few. Visit z|art department Thursday though Saturday from 11-5, and come experience what Colorado art has to offer.
Many thanks to:
Hugh Grant, for 30 years of friendship and guidance.
Robert Delaney, for Popular Culture and exposing me to Colorado artists subliminally.
Micheal Palia, Mary Chandler, and Hugh Grant, for their vision and execution of the book Colorado Abstract, which in my humble opinion, should be Colorado's bible for collecting Colorado art.
Elizabeth Scholosser, for her friendship and her wonderful series with Lee Ballantine that dove into multiple aspects of Colorado Art
Paul & Nancy Hughes, for treating me like the son they never had.
Because of their support, contributions and friendship, z|art department became a reality.
